Player Welfare

Our approach to Child Welfare

The safety and happiness of every child on our camps is our top priority. Each of our venues is staffed by an exceptional on-site welfare team, providing round-the-clock care with a personalised 1:6 staff-to-player ratio. Every camp is led by a highly experienced Camp Director, who oversees the team to ensure the safe and secure running of the site. Our staff are dedicated to helping players feel at home, make friends, and enjoy every moment of their experience. They are carefully selected and trained to maintain the highest standards of child welfare and safeguarding.

In addition to our welfare team, we have on-site medical staff, including nurses and physiotherapists, with a doctor on call at all times. This ensures that every player is supported both physically and emotionally throughout their time at camp.

While all our staff are responsible for the wellbeing of players on camp, the welfare team provide 24/7 support specifically dedicated to the physical and emotional wellbeing of every child as well as ensuring they are where they need to be at the right time, with the right equipment and are suitably fuelled.

We carefully select and train our staff using years of experience to pick the best people for the job. All staff have an enhanced DBS check which is a criminal record and background check to ensure they are suitable for working with children. Every staff member is trained in child safeguarding while all senior pastoral care staff also have extensive experience working with children in a school or residential setting.

INJURY, ILLNESS AND MEDICATION

We hold accreditation from the British Accreditation Council as a trusted provider of top-tier medical care, giving parents reassurance that every player’s health and wellbeing is carefully looked after.

Our camps have qualified physiotherapists on site throughout the day, ready to assess and treat any sports injuries, as well as run clinics offering guidance on injury prevention and recovery. Coaches also play a key role in reducing injury risk, leading thorough warm-up and cool-down routines for all training sessions.

Medical nurses are available at all times to monitor and assess any illnesses, with 24/7 access to a doctor for additional support if needed. Should a player become unwell, parents are contacted immediately to discuss the situation and decide on the best next steps.

We can also manage players’ medications during camp, as long as these have been disclosed in advance and meet the criteria set by our medical team. For full details, please refer to the Parent Guides in Manage Your Booking.

Support for homesickness

Recognising signs of homesickness and offering support is part of our staff training. Homesickness is completely normal for many children in the first couple of days, and our staff will provide all the care and support needed to help any child experiencing homesickness to settle in. Getting comfortable with life on camp and involved in the camp activities are the best remedies for feelings of homesickness, which normally ease within a few days. Should your child experience homesickness, we encourage you to give them some space to adapt to their new environment as we find that too much contact with parents in the first few days can prolong homesickness and prevent players from making the most of their camp experience.

Our staff are always on hand to talk to you and update you on how everything is going. Rest assured that we will contact you immediately if there are any issues. Our staff are also trained to identify any emotional changes or abnormalities in a players’ behaviour and will ensure they are fully supported to overcome any issues and make the most of their time with us.

Diet, Nutrition and Hydration

Meals on camp are carefully planned to be nutritionally balanced, giving young athletes the energy they need to get the most out of every session. Each venue offers a variety of options, including at least one vegetarian choice.

Our welfare team keeps a close eye on players throughout the day, ensuring they eat well and stay hydrated. Water is available at all football sessions, and coaches build in regular hydration breaks. Campers also learn about the importance of nutrition and hydration through workshops and ongoing guidance during their time at camp.

We can accommodate most dietary requirements if we are informed in advance. Parents are asked to provide detailed information in the Player Welfare Form before their child arrives, allowing us to cater to individual needs safely and effectively.
